Sofa Surfer

Released via Cult Deep Records, enigmatic rapper Renelle 893 comes through with ‘Sofa Surfer’, produced by Changing Currents. This new offering isn’t the first time that the pair have collaborated, having worked together on ‘Jollof Rice’, a track that featured on Renelle’s 2020 joint EP with rapper/producer Beau Peep. With Renelle’s cult fan base waiting with bated breath, the artist has finally returned with a new effort that combines his nonchalant charisma with grizzly, purposeful delivery and refined lyrical prowess.

One of the most sort after producers currently making waves in the underground, Changing Currents offers up a cinematic, colourful and contagious instrumental, teeming with hazy ambiguity. There is an eerie groove to Changing Currents atmospheric beat, with the airy, subtle synth chordal pattern and chopped up vocal samples filling the sonic palette with character and musical nuance.

Renelle once again shows himself to be one of the best bar-for-bar rappers in the UK underground, with memorable one liners littered around the soundscape, maintaining great authenticity and potency despite the tongue in cheek word play. The song is accompanied by a lowkey, saturated video that marries well with the controlled, tasteful production.

The first contribution from his upcoming EP, this could be the year that Renelle 893 finally starts receiving the recognition his talent deserves.
