Up North

Lady Ice takes us Up North in her latest single to the place she grew up the Manchester suburb of Old Trafford. Despite being born in Old Trafford, in the accompanied visuals of the track she is seen repping ice blue Man City’s strip their local rivals.

There has been an exploration of talent coming from up north in the last ten years with Meekz, Aitch, Bugzy Malone and Abnormal Sleepz all contributing to the rap scene adding their own style to the genre.

The Manchester born rapper’s wordplay and lyricism is elite as she captures the grittiness of the north and take no prisoner mentality calling out all the actors ‘You don’t walk that walk’ on a wavy and energetic beat produced by the certified JBMADEIT, who’s previously worked with Drake, Central Cee and French Montana.

The track is a collection of memorable punchy one-liners and playfulness that gives us another layer to peer at from the rapper. Lady Ice was also one of the first females to ever feature on BBC’s Rap Game and has been supported by BBC 6 Radio, Radio 1 and BBC 1Xxtra.

Speaking on working with acclaimed producer JBMADEIT, Lady Ice says:

It was so organic, our energies collided and we made magic. He got the assignment the moment he added the first instrument. He’s a natural hit maker, having worked with the likes of Drake, French Montana and amazing UK legends like Central Cee, Headie One and more. I was in safe hands!

Talking about Up North she says:

It’s the ultimate Northern anthem and what is missing from music conversations. I’m unapologetically showing my native tongue and being the fun me, content wise and sonically. ICE IS BACK! But to take over. You’re about to see a side you never witnessed on rap game.
