A joyous recollection of all things immaculate. Anya Marsland’s debut single ‘Soft Sounds’ is a refreshing fusion of soul and R&B which left me with feelings of indescribable nostalgia. A longing for an artificial dream. 

The first thing to point out is the meticulous production. With whimsical guitar soundscapes and crisp live drums, Anya is certainly keen to leave her mark. She sites her influences as legends like Joni Mitchell, Amy Winehouse, and Daniel Caesar, and while these sounds do come through, Anya’s unique charisma and maturity render her music nothing but original. 

The dynamic control over her velvety vocals is something of a rarity in the contemporary scene. She entices the listener. Not playing all her cards at once, rather, building a great crescendo of energy that spurs the track on.

This vulnerable rollercoaster is both enriching and wildly comforting. An incredible debut from an artist with potential in heaps.
