Sippin Tea

The mysterious psychonaut residing South of the river 3vs gives us his third instalment of the year in his kaleidoscopic offering ‘Sippin Tea’.

3vs is the extraordinary sound casting unconventional frequencies throughout the UK scene as we very well speak, the multi-faceted wordsmith is unapologetically himself throughout the whole span of his discography, vividly voiced in this new offering in particular: ‘no ones putting me up on their playlist/ fuck it I don’t need their ratings/ got myself and they hate it’. The refreshing genre-defying (if not sub-genre founding) artist has cultivated a number of bangers over his official two-year span in the game, with notable offerings such as; the heart-warming lullaby ‘Oh So Average’ from the New Testament EP, his stupidly smooth feature on ChubbzFSG’s ‘Tekky’ and my personal go to, his afro-beat infused ‘Do Both’ (shout out Legrand PaPii on the production).

3vs is the pseudonym for… well, that’s the thing… we’re not actually too sure. 3vs is adamant in concealing his image - as he says for himself ‘hide my face, can’t bait it’. While many continue to request face reveals, I personally think it adds even more appreciation and mystery to the soundscape, stripping back a lot of the ego that subconsciously comes with music for both listeners and artists. A lot of success within the industry revolves around image, but I feel 3vs is mainly in it for the music alone, not much more. The only character 3vs ties his voice to is a medieval jester depicted in a variety of forms on his social platform, giving us a unique face to tie to the equally unorthodox soundscape.

Trailing his spirited ‘Been About’, 3vs gave us a warming number that he’s been brewing for a while now - ‘Sippin Tea’. This offering sees the distinctly drowsed voice string a chain of psychedelically charged wordplay, cased in a trippy cadence tied in with his witty jests: ‘7/10 babes you’re alright/ if you climb this d**k you’re gonna be at a height’ before coming back down into that woozy hook as 3vs sips on his psilocybin infused tea.

Sonically, Thug$ Bunny casts a trance inducing instrumental upon us, comprising of a warped, possibly even reversed melody riddled with hazy synths, and a complimentary sequence of paralleled percussion - with the finishing touches courtesy of TomInTheChamber as the trip sitter, seeing that the journey runs smoothly on the mixing and mastering.

The utopian soundscape is guided through a frenzy of dreamy imagery casted throughout a visualiser courtesy of HeyWaySlay - piecing together sequences of shrooms, tea pots, nature and nostalgic polaroid cameras all embedded within cloud nine.

3vs continues to establish his genre-defying manner when it comes to this whole rapping thing, and like I said earlier, may even be on his way to shape a new sub-genre within the scene, who knows. Until that time comes though, go check out the upcoming talent and show him and his discography some love after giving those trippy visuals a watch.
