Rising star MOLTENO offers up a heavenly slice of alternative pop with ‘Our house is on fire’.

Previously described as the ‘love child of Bjork and Bat For Lashes’, MOLTENO’s musing, elysian delicacy has attracted acclaim from the likes of BBC Introducing, Spotify and DUMMY. Adopting elements of pop, R&B and trip hop, MOLTENO’s unique tone carries resemblance to a futuristic Aldous Harding. With soundscapes lifted straight from a dystopian paradise, the colourful palettes convey an otherworldly sensation of fanatical possibilities.

‘Our house is on fire’ follows in the footsteps of MOLTENO’s previous releases, with ethereal vocals shining through ambiguous and psychedelic instrumentation. The startling and absorbing lyricism is as beautiful as it is devastating.

Speaking on the track, the singer comments:

I started writing ‘Our house is on fire’ in the first UK lockdown. I was lucky enough to stay in the middle of nowhere near where I grew up in Stroud and there was a quietness and a sense of eeriness and social isolation that seeped into the studio at the time. I wanted to explore the way homes can feel inescapable in periods of change like relationship breakdowns or family dysfunction, like the house is slowly burning. When home doesn’t feel like home anymore.

Alternative pop, as a stylistic movement, has been really pushing the boat out in 2021, and MOLTENO’s dreamy new single is a worthy addition to the progressive genre.
