Head Highs

Ireland’s smoothest hip hop steward Malaki returns with buttery offering ‘Head Highs’.

Following in the footsteps of alternative frontrunner and fellow Irishman Kojaque, Malaki uses intelligent lyricism and unique delivery to convey his compelling approach to hip hop. Following the release of his robust May single ‘The Riddler’, the Dublin-based rapper opts for a mellower sound for this next effort, oozing charm and hazy introspection.

Malaki flows smoothly on Cork producer Jar Jar jr’s wistful, nectarous beat, sporting his iconic Irish tone and laidback, effortless flow. Lyrically, Malaki speaks on his infatuation with the subject of the track, as he describes the psyche and physical aspects of a loving relationship, pondering ‘what’s sex without love, what’s love without sex’. The visuals directed by Hugh Mulligan are a series of vivid and colourful shots that show Malaki and his beau in the streets of London.

Speaking on the track, Malaki commented:

I wrote this song when I was living in London the summer of 2020. I wasn’t in the greatest of head spaces and I was confined to my flat due to the pandemic. I promised myself I would come back a stronger person and enjoy the life London had to offer. This music video definitely proves that.

The single release is joined by the announcement that Malaki’s upcoming EP ‘DFTTYM’ will drop in August, with shows in London and Bristol also confirmed.
