Sweets, the upcoming star based in Manchester, has released his follow up single to the excellent ‘Ashtray Cowboy’, with his high-octane banger ‘I’m Not Coming Home’.

The song showcases the emcees versatility as he trades the laid-back rhymes and mellow production of his last release for hard-hitting bars and an electric, pulsing beat. Whilst the young rapper only has two songs available to stream, he is yet to disappoint.

His delivery is venomous, spitting with fast flows over the somewhat grimier Yeezus-esque instrumental. Sweets effortlessly contrasts the chaotic, psychedelic nature of the track with an ambitious chorus that takes you to what he describes as a “trippy drugged out space”.

You can hear the influence of Mike Skinner’s The Streets with the young emcees often relatable, cocky lyrics and occasionally dark subject matter. Lyrics such as ‘maybe underdog but a different breed’ show his sharp wordplay which matches the intense energy of the beat.

Born and raised in Newcastle, Sweets has been building a name for himself in Manchester, which he now calls home. Through live shows and unforgettable performances, the rapper has been creating hype, whilst many eagerly await new music.

This is for sure a song that needs to be played loud and is a standout from the imminent Manchester scene. Big things are on the horizon for the unique artist, and we’re excited to hear more.
