Cheque Came
House of Pharaohs frontrunner Sam Wise enlists the enigmatic wordsmith Jesse James for new one ‘Cheque Came’.
Amongst the finest alternative rappers in the UK, both Sam and Jesse have become known for their lyrical ability, as well as their refusal to cater to the masses, instead opting to challenge convention, allowing the UK underground rap scene to reach new found heights over the past few years. The track is another glimpse into Sam’s upcoming mixtape that is set to be released via Platoon, and follows the similarly vibrant and charismatic single ‘First Little Rollie’.
On ‘Cheque Came’, the rappers opt for a tried and tested formula, delivering laidback flows effortlessly on the jazz-hop instrumental produced by Joffstar. The inclusion of Venna on sax is, as always, a welcome addition, as he glides through the soundscape with silky nuance. Sam’s sharp hook is a standout point of the tune, instantly memorable and bound to go off if/when Sam unleashes it at upcoming live shows at Reading & Leeds, Dot to Dot Festival and ALT+LDN.
Two of the most skilful spitters in the game, the boys combine auspiciously to produce a song full of seamless dynamism, well crafted inflections, and savvy wordplay.
