Canadian songstress LOONY enlists the help of Chicago wordsmith Mick Jenkins on the irresistibly silky ‘royal flush’. The singer has steadily built a fan base over the last couple of years after discovering the therapeutic beauty of creating art. This new cut, plucked from LOONY’s imminent EP, is her second release of the year after the January drop ‘raw’, a soulful, gorgeous offering.

The chopped samples and sound library are unique and compelling, with funky keys, rumbling bass and sparse, expressive guitar licks filling up the brazenly mellow soundscape. The production of the track is continuously intriguing; the early distortion, oxymoronic to LOONY’s smooth vocal, fades and is overawed by arpeggiated, colourful melodies that compliment Jenkins as he sprays a nonchalant poem. Known for his suave, buttery smooth delivery and compelling, astute lyrical prowess, the rapper doesn’t disappoint. Mick offers a subdued and calculated verse that keeps the narrative potent and transitions seamlessly with LOONY’s chorus.

Incandescent and effortless, the pair carry smooth energy and a superb sonic connection. The craft and quality of both artists ensures ‘royal flush’ is a blessing not to be missed.
