no telly

Canterbury’s kwes e returned with yet another wheel-up worthy entry, turning to underground maestro DXVL to bring us the assertive anthem ‘no telly’.

Tailing his debut instalment of 2021 ‘hand on heart’, kwes e possibly brings us the ‘greatest linkup since Avengers Endgame’, seeing the southerner sourcing talent through just a few of the rising stars within the underground scene right now in; 00ab, YT and none other than the dirty south’s very own Ayrtn.

In typical kwes e fashion, we’re hit straight off the bat with a chain of cool-headed wordplay from the rapper; ‘tell em that I got bare like a teddy/she wanna layup because I got the jelly’ *the later is an absolute bar* - all before heading off into the topic of discussion: netflix asking him and his linkage whether they’re still watching the telly or not.

As the choppy hook comes to a close, kwes e lets us know that his circle hasn’t got any time to stop for red lights; ’why you stopping we always on green’ - but if you hadn’t got it in your head already, Clapton’s Balenciaga stepper 00ab further consolidates, reciting the phrase to let them know just one more time, as he transitions into that silky smooth verse, putting those occasional vocals on display (‘she gonna YTeeeee’).

And just like that 00ab summons comedic lyricist YT, as he delve’s into a few one liners that’ll have you hooked on his refreshing light-hearted approach to rap: ’on my way home pull up my true’s so my mum don’t catch me sagging/I told this one posh girl to come to the shubz, she said what the hell is the shoobz’.

Ensuing kwes e’s second hook, underground pioneer Ayrtn takes the last leg of the track, breaking off into that renowned unorthodox flow he’s formed through his years in the game, linking a chain of self-assured bars to see the project off: ‘they’re trying to ignore what I do, so I had to fuck up all the mics/I be grinding and I’m shining like some cutlery’.

With the audio finally dropping a few days back on all platforms, the premier release over on Esc plan’s YouTube channel was paired with buffered VHS visuals displaying a late-night link up amongst the collective courtesy of underground’s goat’d cameraman LAUZZA, with the assistance of Zack Arlo and Jude Swan.

But less of my chatting, go run up those numbers on ‘no telly’ and make sure to take in those visuals too!
