Heaven (Remix)

Croydon rapper Still Shadey recruits Double S, Jo Joey and Melvillious for the serious new remix of his impressive single ‘Heaven’. The original version of the track, produced by Sampah, is a feel good gem that catapulted Still Shadey into mainstream attention. This revamped interpretation of the track approaches its themes in a more sombre and pensive manner; tackling a darker side of religion, questioning its stake in morality and free will.

The change in lyrical content is mirrored by the instrumental timbre and vocal delivery. The dainty boom bap drums are replaced by more urgent drill rhythms, whilst the buttery synths from Sampah’s production are replaced by a more ominous soundscape. Still Shadey’s delivery, that once once felt hopeful and devoted, is now reflective and wistful. Each rapper impresses with contemplative, powerful performances.

Still Shadey shows creativity and versatility on a cut that is individual enough to stand out from the original, whilst paying homage to his ideologies and the track that elevated his career.
