Hate U 2

A rich entanglement of soulful sounds and empowering lyricism. Kaisha, born in Malaysia, is an incredibly talented musician who effortlessly blends notes of jazz and R&B. Her most recent release, ‘Hate U 2’, is a song dedicated to self-progression and the willingness to move on, as hard as that may be.

Her maturity in song structuring and emotion is prevalent and helps create a beautifully gelled array of instrumentation. Fuzzy guitars and warm synths surround the listener, generating a soundscape that is both nostalgic, yet cutting-edge. Along with the meticulous production, Kaisha’s vocals are as confident as they are lush. She is unattainably in charge.

Roughly two thirds into the track, we are greeted with a swooning transition that takes a break from drums and welcomes reversed guitar samples and vocal harmonies that are remarkably reminiscent of classic 90s R&B. The track then crescendos into its infectious chorus that is bound to be stuck in my head for a long while.

Speaking on the track, Kaisha explained:

This track is an open letter to anyone who has tried to be the overbearing hero in an excuse to “save” someone. I wrote this for my younger self who wanted to enjoy life in her own time despite everyone’s expectations of her. It’s really just about not letting anyone else dictate my journey and also having independence for myself. The creative process was therapeutic and a little nostalgic.

This is an incredibly well put-together track that truly showcases Kaisha’s talent and potential. She carries a sound that many attempt to replicate, but very few reach this calibre.
