Fragile

Rotterdam based soulstress Sophia showcases her delicacy with gratuitous endearment on placidly powerful album Fragile.

Combining ear-worm pop, silky soul and upbeat R&B, the Dutch singer/songwriter has developed a sound through years of musical study, studying at the prestigious Rotterdam Conservatory of Music. With a style full of sophistication and emotion, the nine prolonged project sees Sophia convey her deepest feelings with subtle nuance, drawing the listener in with her celestial vocals and atmosphere-laden instrumentals.

Each song depicts a different moment from Sophia’s life in the past two years, as Sophia explores an array of bewitching and devastating events, such as the death of her father and falling in love for the first time. Speaking on the release, Sophia expressed:

The album is called fragile, because I am. The songs are fragile too. I’ve never been this honest in my entire life and it scares me to share everything with the world. But I have found (during this process) that there is strength in being fragile and vulnerable. It takes courage to be fragile. When the first lockdown came I finally had the chance to deal with everything that had happened. Instead of going to therapy, I went to a writers camp with my best friends and colleagues and wrote this album.

An inspiring, gorgeous and wistful body of work, Fragile tells its listener that it is okay to not be okay. There’s something beautiful about imperfection.
