Huddersfield’s finest duo 8Nights up the gears with sunny and stylistic cut Live A Bit.
Since emerging back in 2018, the pair - consisting of Doneightz and 1jav - have been making waves across the North and beyond, flying the Huddersfield flag in the process. With their infectious party-esque sound, the duo have sold out shows in their home town and gained a loyal fan base, garnering over 600k streams in the process.
Returning with their first track of the year, 8Nights are slicker and smoother than ever. The melodic delivery is perfectly embedded into the laid-back atmosphere of the guitar-centric instrumental, with the pair unleashing silky bars about new love and desire. An effortless cut ideal for this late summer heatwave, 8Nights are leading the way for the next wave of Northern rap talent.
We spoke to 8Nights about the new track, their journey so far, and what’s next.
Talk me through your journey up to this point
Growing up as childhood friends, we discovered a mutual love and talent in music. In 2018, we released our first single No Games which solidified our hunger and passion to make music. Since then, we've built our own studio, spend all hours of the day and night recording and perfecting our sound. 9 singles later, here we are, ready for the next step in our journey.
What influenced the track?
Nightlife in Huddersfield was non-existent, so we made the soundtrack to what it should sound like. With a laid-back chorus perfect for any motive or party, lyricism as cool as our demeanours and a bouncy beat to accompany it. We look to cement ourselves in the world of UK Rap.
What was the creative process?
As soon as the beat played, we knew it was a hit! ‘Baby I could show you how to live a bit‘ rolled straight off the tongue & the rest of the studio session was history from there. We went on to play the song for our team and peers, and almost everybody had the same vision as us for a 90s - 2000s hip hop influenced video, leading to the visuals you received.
What do you want listeners to take away from the tune?
The motto for the song is to Live A Bit which couldn’t be any more obvious. After the pandemic, a lot of us made a conscious decision to live for the moment, as you can’t always control tomorrow. We want the listeners to be reminded of that every time they hear our song.
What's up next for you?
Currently, we are planning our first project which is set to release next summer 2023, titled Friends Or Affiliates. Our project will have 8 songs, set around the similar vibe as Live a Bit, that wavey, early 2000s up-north swagger. Following up from the project, we will be putting on headline shows in 3 different locations, including our hometown Huddersfield and 2 other secret locations! So stay updated on our socials.
