Soulful newcomer Femi Tahiru drops his highly anticipated debut EP, ‘D.E.M.O.S’, an acronym for Definitely Emotional Maybe Overly Sensitive.

A effortless, polished and emotive performer, Femi has been impressing R&B listeners since his 2020 debut offering ‘What You Want’. The new project features previously released singles; the bedroom pop inspired, wistful banger ‘Signs’, and the seamlessly silky serenade ‘Asking For’. The singles received acclaim from tastemakers such as BBC Radio 1’s Huw Edwards and BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins.

The self produced EP, instrumentally drawing influence from artists such as The Internet and Mac Ayres, encompasses the lofi summer vibe that has made the recent wave of bedroom pop so popular and prominent within alternative and mainstream music scenes. An assortment of guitar strummed 7th chords, subtle yet busy percussion and swooning vocal melodies combine to create soundscapes that are familiar and delicate. As suggested by the EP’s title, Femi is not afraid to portray real life emotions and feelings, never more so than on lead single ‘Unusual’, which is accompanied by a vibrant music video (see above) that acts as a visual representation of adoration and lust; implying the crazy, eccentric things that we do when love is involved.

The well rounded project does an excellent job at creating moods and maintaining them, with Femi’s role as the narratives figurehead successfully portrayed with finesse and introspection. An exciting artist and a must hear EP.
