Contingency

Birmingham rapper/singer, DapzOnTheMap is back with new single, Contingency. Skipping across a bouncy Swifta Beater (Aitch, AJ Tracey, Ghetts) production, Contingency highlights Dapz’ ability to shift through gears and flows whilst maintaining his seamless delivery. Impossible to miss the impassion in his voice, the overall theme is self-reflective of Dapz’ drive to re-establish the faith of his fans who have been highly anticipating a project since his 2019 project, Champion Settings. More recently, his sound has continued to evolve and moved into the R&B space to sonically mark his own personal influences, highlight his ‘mean & clean’ persona as well as his ability to balance the rough with the smooth. Beginning the summer on a huge high, Dapz recently dropped. Born & Raised paying homage to his West Midlands roots and simultaneously celebrates the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with ‘Champion’ a collaboration with the iconic, UB40. At the start of last month, he also joined forces with fellow-Birmingham artist, Tempa for Streets of Rage ensuring he maintained match fit for what he has in store.

Dapz On The Mapz’ eclectic musical palette spans across; Dancehall, Jungle, Garage, Grime and Rap and was ingrained in him from birth courtesy of his elder peers and family. Creatively woven into his sound, Dapz took those influences into his own hands and has since become a linchpin in the West Midlands music scene with co-signs from the likes of Kano, Skepta, Sian Anderson & DJ Target. Notoriously breaking down any boundaries in his way, he has remained an integral part of the scene with tracks such as Beautiful and Froggy remaining key to his discography. Conscious of shifting the stigma of being labeled as just an MC, his personal sound merges Grime and R&B elements resulting in Dapz creating his own pioneering sound which he labels Grime&B. Over time he has become a role model for Birmingham and beyond with the aim of inspiring the next generation of artists to achieve everything he has and more.

On the new single, Dapz commented:

“The inspiration for the track stems from conversations I’ve had with family/friends & supporters. They all echo a similar message. ‘Where’s the new music?’ ‘We need consistency?’ ‘We just want to know what’s in store fam, tell us what you’ve been through. Contingency is taking accountability for my lack of music and leaving no room for Plan B. It’s a self-reflecting message and essentially a mental battle whilst giving encouragement that I can achieve my goals if I remain consistent.“

Dapz’ forthcoming releases are set to mark a milestone moment for his musical legacy as he flies the flag for Birmingham on his most significant scale to date.
