Coasting

Thai Mason’s position within the UK rap scene has always been certified. We first met him in 2014, with the release of his FKJ-produced track, Drunk. On the back of the single’s success, he has slowly been bubbling away and building his following.

After a couple years in hiatus, the rising Birmingham talent is making his comeback with Coasting, the gentle groove with a series of personal introspections portrayed through the eyes of the rapper.

The track’s instrumental sees a hazy, lo-fi blend as the backdrop for the Mason’s meditations. The producer, Bearcubs, makes use of a gentle progression with jazz and funk influences, also incorporating a steady drum loop for that classic boom-bap effect.

Thai Mason takes a similar laid-back approach to the track as with his previous releases. The rapper conveys his frustrations regarding situations infesting his current life, simultaneously contemplative yet self-assured. He subtly expresses the pain of the past, yet aspirations for the future through his commanding lyrical prowess.
