Wearing Smiles

If you hadn’t heard of Miles From Kinshasa, now is the time to get acquainted. This Congolese-born and London-based artist shares his music by retaining the elements of his homeland whilst having his music mull over a breezy feel. The groove-emitting and gentle single ‘Wearing Smiles’ is Miles’ first single of 2020 which pinpoints the start of a new chapter for him. Having risen in popularity since his debut single back in 2016 with ‘IVRY’, he then went on to release the EP ‘LIMBO’, to then have the opportunity to do a performance of ‘Could We Just Talk Instead’ for COLORS.

‘Wearing Smiles’ was produced by Miles himself. The song oozes with introspective lyrics and a soothing ambience. His fluid tone of voice alongside the seamless beat of the track fits with the video aesthetic which gives off a vintage, lo-fi feel as if filmed with a camcorder. When speaking about the track, Miles has said,

With this song I really wanted to say exactly how I felt at that time about my own day to day and that I didn’t want to pretend that everything is okay all the time, but with a touch of smart writing too. It’s probably one of the most relatable songs I’ve written thus far.

The end of the track also promotes his up and coming EP ‘Beloved’, which is believed to be coming out late August. The footage shown for the video was also filmed pre-lockdown. “It just accompanies the song very well,” He says. “It shows me being very relaxed in my own world whilst talking about things on my mind. It feels very meditative.
