Tell Her

Zilo, the twentysomething poetic, London singer has been kicking up a storm for quite some time. In 2018 she dropped her EP ‘The Nature of the Beast’ which quickly became beloved by fans and critics alike. Zilo now returns with the sultry yet firm ‘Tell Her’.

What’s quite interesting about this song, is Zilo’s perspective, as she assumes her lover who she refers to as “naïve” is non-complicit and it’s the ex who is waiting for Zilo to “fuck up” so “she can start making a move on” her lover. However, you can’t help but feel a sense of forlorn for Zilo as she breathily asks why her lover refuses “to tell her to go”. The upbeat tempo, although vibey, acts as a masking disguise for Zilo’s pain and powerlessness in the inevitability of her lover leaving her for their ex.

If you have a chance, listen to the slowed edit version, which gives a whole other sinister perspective of Zilo seemingly been drained of energy trying to keep her lover from straying away. From an artistic choice, it also gives a masculine sound to Zilo’s otherwise soulful, R&B voice perhaps highlighting the Divine Feminine/Masculine energy we all possess.
