In his latest release, PLANET.DRVV creates an oasis of sound, enveloping listeners in an alternate reality and delivering heavy lockdown vibes. The self-produced and self-written project serves as a time capsule, reflecting on what reality is during such uncertain times. Aptly named, ‘Some Things Don’t Last Forever’ the five song EP soothes the ears of weary fans, promising that this too shall pass.

The album begins with ‘Simulation/Reality’ a slow sonic build that crescendos and reveals PLANET.DRVV’s silky smooth vocals. The title of the first track is a theme that will appear repeatedly throughout the project, especially in ‘What To Believe’. With everything going on in the world, it’s not hard to understand why PLANET.DRVV is questioning what is real. It’s in this track that we see PLANET.DRVV’s phonetic diversity and ability to play with his pacing in a way that emphasizes his lyrics thoughtfully.

The ponderance continues with the neo-soul inspired production in ‘Enigma’. The carefully timed hi-hat inspires feelings of Saturday nights, dancing solo in the kitchen with a glass of wine in hand. In this track, the questioning continues but is directed towards an individual rather than the community around him, proving that love is essential to surviving the strange state of things.

PLANET.DRVV hits his point of view home in ‘Wake Me Up’. The gunshots heard throughout the song remind us of what is happening in our communities while a sample from a news outlet reporting on recent events makes the point of this track crystal clear. Referencing the dream or fugue state the world seems to be in, the theme of simulation vs reality continues.

The EP wraps with ‘Some Things Don’t Last Forever’, a song defined by its soothing melody and the velvet vocals that carry through the entirety of the track. The project is a letter to the world, questioning reality while searching for answers through the sonic ocean created in quarantine, with high hopes and a promise that “something things don’t last forever”.
