Leicester band Easy Life use their winning formula of jazz-tinged indie music combined with smart and relatable lyricism and laidback hip hop flows on their new double A-sided demo single ‘see you later maybe never’. A band always creative in the way they release music, these 2 tracks follow on from their solid January mixtape ‘Junk Food’. This release finds the band going back to the roots of their first mixtape, ‘Creative Habits Mixtape’, with sparse, synth-led instrumentals, with electronical soundscape, horns and percussion driving the beats forward.

The first track, ‘peanut butter’, feels like a modern day/ text message ballad - our lovesick narrator tells tales of intimacy and forgotten better times, with sharp, striking and amusing bars such as “I put some serious thought into my outfit / I hope you noticed”. The bittersweet piano chords and vocal tones that sway between desperation and introspection create an emotive mood that is compelling and aesthetically pleasing. The chorus, as always with an Easy Life hook, hits in all the right places, with the royal horns and layered vocals giving the song tremendous depth.

The second song, ‘petty crime’, is the stronger song lyrically and sonically, and does exactly what Easy Life do best - write thoughtful and emotive songs that moonlight as bangers. Lead singer Murray really shows off the full scope of his talent on the track; switching between singing and rapping with nuance and industry. The smooth and striking hook matches well with the beat.

Going from strength to strength, Easy Life are one of the most interesting and creative bands making music in England right now. An album cannot be far away. Please.
