SECOND WIND

With the launch of his latest single ‘SECOND WIND’, Los Angeles artist GREGNWMN delivers rap fans the ultimate new record; a quirky experience that lends itself to the strength of the instrumental and vocal performance. Produced by Epik the Dawn, the beat is perfect and that’s not something I throw around a lot. For the style of rap of GREGNWMN explores, it complements the style well. You get this light and airy feel from the flutes, setting the idyllic scene, then comes the introduction of raucous 808s to put it in a headlock, like a children’s birthday party before the teenagers turn up and switch up the vibe.

On first listen, I was transported to festival season, those times just before the next artist runs on stage to announce their presence. Picture it now, drink in hand, bit of chatter with your mates. Next thing, you are awoken by this engulfing bass from the speakers. GREGNWMN casts his spell, then the audience are his puppet, swaying from left to right as he runs from one end of the stage to another. My expectations are high, but I’m sure once you are able to watch him, you’ll see.

I’m excited to see the how GREGNWMN’s music resonates with fans this side of the pond. 2020 wasn’t easy for a lot of artists and proved to be the Cali rapper’s most difficult artistic moment yet, and you can almost hear this frustration unleashed on ‘SECOND WIND’.
