Overture

After dropping a string of impressive singles, The Netherlands based artist proves her artistic weight on her debut EP ‘Overture’. The eight-track project featuring her latest single ‘Falling Higher’, as well as her earlier breakout releases ‘I Like Trouble’ and ‘Morning Blue’, are effortlessly tied together within the warming atmosphere this EP exudes through her captivating melodies and equally tender and soulful vocals.

Leaning us in with the guitar-led track ‘I Like Trouble’, Gaidaa takes the opportunity to display just how easily she is able to bring you into her world with her singular melodies and her ability to bring together a range of moods. Having previously released the single back in 2019, it comes as a fitting introduction to her debut.

Moving into the second track, the Sudanese musician brings in Chicago’s, Pivot-Gang artist Saba and fellow Dutch, producer/DJ Jarreau Vandal, effortlessly adding to her sound on the bassline-led ‘Stranger’. Heading into a more introverted, emotional place ‘Ride My Way’, holds endearing lyricism and detailed production making for a warming and distinctive take on a love song.

Moving into the midpoint of the EP with ‘Morning Blue’, the track takes a step back and focuses heavily on Gaidaa’s unparalleled vocal tone, slowing down the tempo of the project before heading into ‘Interlude 47 (Voice Memo)’. The interlude consists of Gaidaa’s unpolished vocals bringing a rawness out of her husky tone over a simple guitar progression, perfectly capturing her emotion with its unedited style.

Slightly upping the tempo, 'Still Water’ brings a guitar-heavy melody, backed up with her incredible vocal tone and poetic, songwriting skills creating this soulful and full-of-feeling track. Her latest release, the bass-heavy, atmospheric  ‘Falling Higher’ takes the place of her penultimate track, showing the best of what Gaidaa has to offer with its singular melody, backed up with her effortless vocal range.

Ending the project alongside fellow Netherlands artist Joshua J, the pair come together to create the wholesome duet ‘Say Yes (Turquoise)’, perfectly complimenting each other's verses. Within this introductory project, Gaidaa is able to create a showcase of her multifaceted talent and if this is just an ‘Overture’ of what she has to offer, what is to come next is highly intriguing.
