Outside Looks Nice

The new tune from ABOE Worldwide founder AyChibs feels like lying in a warm patch of sun as it slices through the blinds. Both grounding and uplifting it’s the warmth we needed, an instrumental track blending afrobeat and house with a driving hip hop undercurrent that cements Chibs as a master of the eclectic. We expect no less from the mind behind the platform which proudly calls itself ‘A Bit of Everything’.

Here, Chibs offsets the melancholia of a nostalgic piano loop with a jaunty, party bassline and ocean samples worthy of the most meditative ASMR. It’s the kind of track you could play at the start or the end of the night, engaging and dynamic but restrained, delicious in its minimalism. Subtle layers of sound are added, melody and percussion build, recede and gently build again like the waves themselves. It takes us somewhere without having to walk through the door. Good in these strange times where lying in a patch of sunlight in your room is more likely than lying on the sand, acknowledged by the tune’s tongue in cheek title, ‘Outside Looks Nice’.
