NO

Ahead of her debut EP, Amalie Bryde flaunts her versatility on the uplifting and charming ‘NO’.

The Danish born, London based singer songwriter has, in recent months, been catching the eye of jazz, R&B and soul fans alike, already offloading two singles this year. After the raw, gorgeous and emotionally devastating ‘Say What It Is’, it’s a surprising, and refreshing, change of direction for the singer on this upbeat and playful cut. This is a celebration of defying convention; to breaking the barriers of conformity and feeling comfortable in being ones true self.

On the sparse and jazz tinged instrumental, subtle guitar chords serenely swarm through the soundscape, while the beat is kept sharp and pacy through simple but effective finger clicking. The naturalistic, rich instrumentation gives the beat an off kilter groove that is dynamic and striking. Amalie delivers a deft vocal performance, full of swagger and smooth tonality, that shines a light on both her confidence and her vulnerability, further accentuating her boldness in depicting her sincere and authentic persona. The chorus particularly stands out, with a dazzling defiance against being herded into the box that society tries to shepherd her towards.

Speaking on her rousing single, Amalie remarked:

With a diverse and emotive palette that is vibrant with expression, and the vocal ability to compliment her powerful lyricism, expect Amalie Bryde to continue to wow listeners throughout 2021. The EP, dropping in May, can’t come soon enough!
