Heavenly Mother

R&B and soul songstress Pip Millett releases the stunning visuals to the ‘Heavenly Mother’ record from the 2020 EP ‘Lost in June’. A song that is so moving and progressive needed to be accompanied by a video that allowed her to shine because this sound is refreshingly authentic to the core.

As I pressed play on the YouTube video, I’d hoped that it didn’t overcomplicate my interpretation of the track, it didn’t and allowed me to continue appreciating – to me visuals are sometimes just as important as the song in the digital age. KC Locke does a great job of making something aesthetically pleasing yet simplified, allowing the constantly evolving elements of the song to take hold of the viewer.

I will whole-heartedly say Pip Millett is one of my favourite UK singers, she brings a whole new take on R&B, but not so new much that you can’t familiarise yourself with the sound – it incorporates the style of old and real theatrical instrumentals - just with a twist. It’s the right level of feel-good yet emotional and raw. I could go on. The whole EP is something you can listen to over and over, understanding her family life as much as her as a whole.
