Independent label Reservoir Records are delighted to announce the release of the brand new EP by Theodor Black, Black Boy Blues, releasing April 20th 2018 on all streaming platforms and online stores.

This EP is an open and honest depiction of Theodor’s experience of life growing up in modern Britain as a young black man. Dealing with the transition from adolescence to adulthood and addressing a range of intersectional themes including romance, race and class, the South-East London born rapper paints a vivid picture of the world through his lens, weaving his trademark rich, introspective lyricism over his own original production of glitchy staccato drum loops and sparse jazz samples. Setting the tone from the titular opening track, the tape progresses from the dreamy and laidback flows of Blue Is My Favourite Colour & Blues, Hues & Views to the raw energy of Feeling Real Blue Like a Crip and On God via night bus ode N89, featuring a standout guest appearance from fellow Reservoir affiliate Kish!

Theodor’s unique sound is the product of years of honing his vocal and production skills, during which time he has built up a loyal following on SoundCloud and Instagram off the back of releases such as last year’s Conversations EP. He’s also represented his art visually, releasing ambitious and distinctive visuals directed by 55MM A.R.T. and the forthcoming Colour Me Blue. Despite still being just 19 years old, he’s developed his gift through live performances at venues across London, most recently supporting enigmatic US rapper Milo at two sell out dates at Birthdays.

In 2018, he’s stepping up with his first commercially-released project, which is no doubt due to take things to the next level for this unique young artist.
