Everything I Know
Newly founded GROUP sees a change in gear for Lee Scott and Jehst, on the introspective, gentle and delicate ‘Everything I Know’, featuring Lord Apex. Showcasing the vast vision and versatility of the artists the tone of this track is fragility, with a beautiful, understated instrumental and calculated thought-provoking lyricism.
The lo-fi soft retro synth sample is emotive and angelic, giving the beat an airy and melancholy timbre. The drum kit gives the beat some pace and keeps it simple, and the production is giving and graceful. Each verse delves into the insecurities and emotions of the enigmatic artists, while still managing to deliver the typical playful, inventive puns. Apex is mighty as always, and Lee Scott particularly offers up some great examples of combining humour and pain, as he says ‘I exercise my demons like Mr Motivator in hell’.
A refreshing, profound and emotionally astute piece of work, there is great depth and maturity in this track, showing the ever evolving Blah Records. With an album on the way, this could be a new level of creative excellence for some of the most respected names in underground UK hip hop.
