DDVS

Marie Noreger might be a name that most people in the UK are unfamiliar with, but her EP DDVS (Discodoll in the Velvet Suit) is sensational. The title itself can be a clue to Marie’s very own sound a combination of sensuous R&B vocals paired with uplifting disco and electronic beats.

Marie is reconstructing the traditional R&B soundscape to express her own individuality with poetic storytelling that charmingly disarms listeners and opens them up to a unique listening experience. The 6-track project meanders through themes of love, affection, authenticity and manifesting dreams.

The Norwegian songstress is delicately weaving her own spell throughout the project. The lead track Boneless allows Marie’s hypnotic voice to mesmerise us from when the first note is hit. The whole track sums up the style of the project, which is fluidity. DDVS, the name of the tittle of the EP has a disco/jazzy feel in the production. Marie’s voice is bright and confident, rhythmically smooth. The song is light hearted and is about having fun, being young and independent from your chosen partner.

Lovin (on) is backed by a guitar based instrumental, and on this one Marie favours a more R&B sound. She admits to her short comings when it comes to relationships, miscommunication being one, as well as understanding that love is a process not the destination. On The View, The songstress’ soulful voices serenade us over an electric beat, viewing love as is both liberating and intimate. The inspirational Miranda is all about following you dreams, in this song Marie acts as advisor to the character ‘Miranda’. Whilst SLOOOWLY, one of the singles from the project, has a siren like quality to it and is about losing yourself.
