Children

Brighton based singer-songwriter GIYA tells tales of misspent youth and suburban romanticism on the retrospective, anthemic and quintessentially British ‘Children’, taken from her debut EP ‘Almost Real’. Having grown up in London, GIYA’s debut draws on her experiences growing up in a big city, honing her sound over a 4 year period of time, to create a love letter to adolescence excitement and vulnerabilities. This dream pop, soulful cut potently defines British youth culture through intelligent songwriting and powerfully understated delivery.

The naturalistic instrumentation revolves around slow, affecting acoustic guitar, combined with bright, grooving bass and drums and angelic keyboard chords. The production is wide reaching, spacious and giving, and GIYA’s sweet, refined vocal sits in the mix like an early morning summer sun, peering out of the clouds. The introspective lyricism sums up being a teenager and growing up in a subtle and intrinsic manner. Relatable and warm, it feels like GIYA knows me better than I do.

This is a ballad. A ballad that sounds like leaves falling in the Autumn. Overflowing with resonance and emotional depth, with memorable melodies, nostalgic, provoking lyricism and all consuming instrumentation, GIYA is an artist worth revisiting again and again.
