Chateauneuf-du-Papi

Slim Papi makes a statement with Chateauneuf-du-Papi; an EP that showcases hip-hop at its most luxurious.

Lyrically adept with bundles of nonchalant charisma, Papi’s EP release built hype thanks to delectable cut Asparagus Tips and the atmospheric Cosmo Kramer which featured a show-stopping verse from Jam Baxter. Both songs appear on the new project, which highlights Slim as one of the sharpest new lyrical talents in rap.

There is room for old school legends Sonnyjim, with a cold verse, and production from Forest DLG on Emidio Pepe, a track that pays ode to the classic sounds of UK hip-hop whilst adding a fresh edge to production, as well as expertly crafted and poetic verses from all 3 rappers. Fresh from his sophomore collaborative album with Clbrks, Kiina lends his production nuance to the EP’s closer Le Corbusier, which sees Slim exuberant in his conversational delivery over the off-kilter, jazz-infused instrumental.

It’s about time classic UK rap made a comeback, and if he continues to be this prolific, Slim could well spearhead any upcoming renaissance. Highly recommend this one for any old school heads.
