Carni

Ahead of what would have been carnival season, London artist Tycho Jones releases fire new record ‘Carni’, embracing a ska-punk sound for an experimental take that reminds us why we all love Carnival. This track, to me, is 100% refreshing.

When an artist diverges from the ‘in’ sound and carves their own pathway, to bring a new curated sound based on historical foundations, it’s clear to see there’s a creative process to unpick. Forgive me if I’ve missed something, but in recent years the growth of this genre hasn’t aligned with other music currently finding popularity in the UK – whereas in the past, it has always been extremely fruitful.

Tycho Jones explains

I was surprised to find Tycho Jones delve into this style for this record, however as a musician and creative – I’m not surprised in him, as his work tends to always lean on the alternative side. He has an ability to incorporate conventions of other genres to create a wonderfully ornate output, that is not necessarily what we are used to as consumers.
