Caffeine

Have you ever listened to a song and had it transport you back to a moment in time? Lizzie Esau’s latest release Caffeineis the perfect example of that moment when a flash of the past washes over you. The track begins with a simple drum loop and a strum of the guitar, her voice breaking through the speakers a second later. There’s something romantic about her presentation - the chords coming together to resemble a slice of the best 90s songs that still tug on our heartstrings but the listening experience is something that’s current, contemporary.

The single builds as time passes, the guitars and drums becoming more immediate, building the tension that then spills over like a cup of spilled coffee at the climax. The result is emotional, bursting at the seams making us want to sing along at the top of our lungs and break down all the walls holding us back from whatever feeling that overtakes us.

Nostalgia is a funny thing but Esau’s talent is far from a memory - ‘Caffeine’ proves she’s here to stay.
