BRO SAID

Hotly tipped newcomer Tugz joins forces with two of drills most persistent players, KO and Jimmy, on the suave and robust ‘BRO SAID’. Members of two of the most progressive collectives in the UK, Birmingham’s TPM (Tugz) and North East London’s 98s (KO & Jimmy), the rappers have previously collaborated together while shelling at the Groundworks cypher. This new single is another Groundworks associated link up, with all three artists contributing taut, penetrating flows and astute, potent lyricism over the inventive, impending instrumental produced by Bruskiii Ky

The ominous, sophisticated synth sample breathes air and ambiguity into the soundscape, as the three drillers broodily surround and invade the beat with intent and energy. Despite Tugz being a member of TPM, the chemistry between him and the 98s is second-to-none, with the shared hook highly effective and the thematic approach consistent throughout the whole cut. KO especially stands out, renowned for being one of the strongest lyricists in the genre, offering up vivid imagery and sagacious wordplay

The UK drill scene is increasingly, and intensely, overcrowded. Yet, TPM and 98s are engineering their own lane, succeeding in standing out amongst their peers through innovation, efficiency and craft.
