BEN AFFLECK

Taken from their divisive debut album, VIDÉ, seeyousoon continue to build momentum with the creative, unpredictable and blasé ‘BEN AFFLECK’. Having released their convention defying record, the video for AFFLECK was a welcomed bonne bouche, with hypnotic vocal melodies, claustrophobic, eclectic production and compelling, astute songwriting combining with cinematic, colourful videography and striking performances.

On a beat that feels simultaneously sparse and busy, the unconventional, hard hitting percussion and rumbling bass dominate the sonic landscape, with distorted guitars shimmering in the background in the chorus, and the staccato, Kubrickian piano creeping in from time to time. The rapping is technically impressive, with both featured verses bursting with showy, salient wordplay and arresting, accentuated flows. It is however the female vocalist, Maddie, who stands out on the track, delivering a moody, beautiful refrain that is full of expression and harmonic depth.

On this uncompromising, provocative piece of art, seeyousoon showcase their fanatical ability to create unique, bustling music filled with contextual substance and odes to influential artists that came before them. With a successful debut release, it’ll be interesting to see where they go next.
