Being Me

“A Reflection of Black Britain and all that was seen and felt” is stated by Louis Culture - a principle channelled in his unapologetic, raw, unflinching stance in ‘Being Me’. His first solo single in two years, we find the South West London rapper back to delve deeper into the investigation of the Black British experience. With the simplistic yet grimy instrumental, Louis captures a mixed feeling of tired assertiveness as he raps “They call me N**ga”, “They call me white” and ‘“getting stopped cos my skin is beige”, a very real problem many people of colour, myself included, have experienced at the discriminatory hands of the police in this country.

However, Louis counteracts this with “24 hours a day, I be myself, what can I say, bunch of love, handful of hate, fuck them all, fingers raised” once again providing a key reminder that there is boundless strength in embracing who you are to the fullest degree. 2020 is looking very promising for Louis Culture!
