Backwards

Sampha and Lil Silva reconnect in the studio for the release of their new single Backwards.  The London natives have a collaborative relationship spanning over a decade, birthing club classics like On your Own and Salient Sarah, not including their weighty and impressive individual catalogues.

Always a pair to hit the mark, Lil Silva speaks on the deeper meaning behind the release, explaining the song explores a ‘feeling of alienation and constantly venting’. The track mirrors its subject in its bassy and heavy percussion, as we visit the anxiety and frustration of trying to move forward when it feels like you're stuck in the ‘matrix’.

Last collaborating on the production of serpentwithfeet’s Fellowship, this is the first official release in almost two years for both the artists, leaving observers wondering if this is a one-off collaboration or is there a more substantial creative project in store to come from the pair?
