B1llionz

To stand out in as congested a field as UK drill right now, you need to do something special - Birmingham’s M1llionz does that with the mesmerising track ‘B1llionz’ produced by Enfield’s Bkay. Hailing from North West Birmingham, M1llionz is a member of a pristine group of up and coming rappers who have respect and hype on street level, as well as some major mass appeal from the UK press. This is an artist who is not afraid to push generic boundaries and show some deeper intellect and artistic endeavour, which he does in abundance on B1llionz.

Released with a fanciful, captivating and well shot video, the track is imperious in every area. The beat is on another level to most drill beats right now; the bass is domineering yet complimentary to the main acoustic guitar melody of plucky, soulful 7th chords. The drums are sparse at points but hit hard, and have a lot of variety and personality. The flow that M1llionz uses throughout the verses is masterful and individualistic and his vocal delivery is powerful and bouncy, full of energy and endeavour. Unlike many drill artists, this guy is a storyteller, opting for longer, drawn out ideologies and analogies rather than delivering punchline upon punchline.

Lyrically proficient, a creative performance and a pioneering instrumental, this is one of the best UK rap songs of the year. Birmingham spitters are finally getting some recognition, and M1llionz could be the best of the bunch. He could go to the top.
