1 2 WATCH: LANDEL

The Pit launch a new series where we will be biweekly focusing on an artist destined for big things. Our ‘1 2 WATCH’ series begins with Birmingham’s alt R&B crooner LANDEL

With origins in videography and direction, LANDEL is a creative who has been making waves in the creative industry for several years. After making his name behind the camera, LANDEL took the plunge into R&B infested waters, releasing his debut single, ‘Lumanji’, in late 2018. Since then, he has been steadily building up a diverse and compelling discography, stacking up over 200k streams and receiving backing from tastemakers such as BBC Radio.

On 30th April, LANDEL dropped his long awaited brooding EP ‘Good Alone’; a project that carries emotional resonance with ease, identifying the true extent of LANDEL’s musical nuance. Inspired by personal experiences, thematically the project journeys through soul searching and heartbreak, with constant undertones of wistful authenticity over the 6 excellent tracks. The imagery and ideals are nonconformist and raw, as the Birmingham songwriter touches on taboo motifs like sex addiction and drug dependency.

Sonically, LANDEL transverse through genres such as electronica and hip hop to construct his own take on alternative R&B. Murky soundscapes and weightless mixes fill the EP with ambiguity and ambience; the layered instrumentals rich with enigmatic vibrancy.

With high quality videos, a strong aesthetic and well crafted instrumentals, LANDEL has the potential to make a name for himself in the alternative R&B and hip hop scene. He is ‘1 2 Watch’.
