Vacation

Leicester-raised rapper Sainte releases his third EP, Vacation, once again sonically delievering an exuberant flow. Nearly a year since his preceding EP, Out The Blue consisting of 7 tracks, implements a dualism of tranquil melody and dance-inducing bass; demonstrating Sainte’s versatility as a U.K. rapper, precisely embodied by track 2, Azure.

Bullish basses, lo-fi production, poise melodies and Maryland-rapper Joony feature, Sainte showcases his mastery as a multifaceted U.K. rapper; in his latest EP. Whilst still maintaining his simply fun and cocky lyrics like his first single release, Envy Me in 2019.

Opening, Sainte teases his cheeky nature with track one, Arrogant. “I know that you like the way I flex(…)”, the head-bopping chorus, encapsulating Sainte’s energetic and fetching lyricism. Continuing in the following 6 tracks, with the likes of BB and Parker Jazz Keegan producing contagious beats and melodies, as depicted by the outro to Sade.

Like Sainte’s predecessors in U.K. rap, there is a strong motif of ‘flexing’ throughout all his music, personified by Compare. Perhaps more intriguing to digest in Sainte’s case, as not only his music is devised in the ever-growing genre of chill U.K. rap, which is the contrast of therapeutic and heavier sounds; but his background as a rapper from Leicester.

Leicester, well-known for its diversity and universities, is not instantly associated with the U.K. rap scene. Sainte, putting it on the musical map, leaves Niall Smith at Complex stating, “Sainté’s music makes his hometown of Leicester feel like the centre of the universe.” Sainte’s uniqueness easily arises from his nature as a Leicester native.

This appeal not only lies in his attitude and words but additionally his visuals. East, the final track, is illustrated by music video captured in a VHS camcorder style; vibrantly full of friends and his life. Rather than it coming down to what brands he can now afford, but how rich in life these rappers can become.

Sainte has longevity ahead, it will be exciting to see what he puts out next…
